The film Latcho Drom, Tony Gatlif's intensely lyrical portrait of Gypsy culture, serves as the inspirational touchstone for this collection. A mixed palette of saturated tones juxtaposed against rich fabrics and finishes -- leather, velvet, lace, silk, featherweight jersey-- this collection is meant not just to be worn, but to be danced in: an expression of the Gypsy in each of us ...adapting to the new world going into the future.

Wearable Art 2010

Back by popular demand – the return of MassArt fashions in a new Wearable Art exhibit at the Burlington Mall. Nestled along the upper level of the main concourse, thirty-one ensembles created by students from Massachusetts College of Art and Design will be on display in celebration of Fashion Week Boston.  MassArt’s popular non-textile creations illustrate ingenuity in recyclables using straws, Chinese take-out boxes, Target gift cards,   bicycle inner tubes, clothespins and mops.

Sowa Street Fashion Show

I was able to catch the ending of the fashion show at Sowa Open Market last Sunday.  This is one of unique gowns made one of the local fashion designers, which was so eye-catching, everyone had to stop and look.

It's not everyday that one gets up close and personal with a fashion show model.

Whatever was the inspiration for this gown, it sure looks like it's out of this world.

MassArt’s Wearable Art

Wearable Art is a collection of 30 creative designs, including non-textiles, contemporary daywear, elegant eveningwear and expertly tailored coats produced by MassArt fashion students. The exhibit will be highlighted today by Burlington Mall’s second annual Simon Fashion Now event.

MassArt’s Jayne Avery explains, “The students and I can’t wait to fit traffic cones, 3-D glasses, molded vinyl records and more on our special models. No one is expecting silk charmeuse or duchess satin – it’s all recycled, sustainable, eco-friendly wearable art!”

Wear your favorite vinyls to your parties and you'll definitely be the one-hit wonder!
